Midsomer Norton Sixth Form football team, captained by Jacob Brooks-Scully (pictured collecting the trophy), enjoyed a 3-2 victory over Millfield School in the Somerset Schools Under 19 final at Bridgewater College.
The team secured wins against King Alfred’s (4-3) and Clevedon (5-2) in the quarter and semi-finals respectively to reach the final.
The team had all the early possession and put the opposition under pressure with the first goal by Finlay Haines after 20 minutes of play. Millfield School battled back for the remainder of the first half so half time was welcomed! The Sixth Form team started the second half strong and at 60 minutes a corner by Lewis Bond-Kendall set up another goal for Finlay Haines. The team defended against some strong attacks from the opposition, with Josh Matthews making three outstanding saves to keep them in the game. At 85 minutes, Conor Ford set up another goal for Finlay Haines who completed his hat trick! Despite a late comeback from Millfield in injury time which resulted in two goals, our team defended their lead to end the game 3-2.
A quote from Mr Craig Price, Head of Boys’ PE:
I am so proud of what the students have achieved. We’ve been close to reaching the final on a couple of occasions over the years but have always fallen at the last hurdle. We have a strong team this year and they have worked exceptionally hard throughout the season to achieve this victory. They have set incredibly high standards for future Sixth Form football teams to follow. The team were also unbeaten in the BANES Under 18s football league this year. They have played incredibly well.
